Clean Agent Fire Suppression System
Clean agent fire suppression system is a type of fire suppression system that uses a inert gases or halocarbons chemical agent to extinguish fires. Clean agents are designed to suppress fires fast without causing damage to the protected property, making them a popular choice for data centers, telecommunications facilities, museums, and other high-value assets.
 
The clean agent system typically consists of a storage container (cylinder) for the agent, a piping network, discharge nozzles, and a control panel complete with auto detection and manual devices. When a fire is detected, the clean agent is discharged after the countdown indicated, into the protected area through the pipe networks and nozzles, quickly extinguishing the fire by reducing the oxygen concentration (inert gases) in the air  or supercooling (halocarbon) via interrupting the chemical reaction that sustains the fire. The agent typically leaves no residue, making cleanup easy and minimizing downtime for the protected equipment.
 
Examples of  popular clean agents include under halocarbons agent are Fluoro-K, Hfc227ea while inert gases are IG01 (argon), IG55 (argonite), IG541 (inergen) and IG100 (nitrogen). The selection of the clean agent depends on the type of hazard being protected, the size of the protected area, and the amount of time it will take for the agent to reach the fire.
