Description
Firetrace offers a range of different agents for use with our fire suppression system hardware, including dry chemical, clean agents, and carbon dioxide (CO2). A variety of agents are recommended for different applications or hazards.
Choose the Right Agent to Ensure Application Success
Every agent has advantages and disadvantages, which is why it is important to understand your application requirements. For example, to select the most appropriate agent for a given application, you will need to know whether the hazard you need to protect is susceptible to Class A, B, C, or D fires (or some combination of these).
Firetrace systems can be installed with any of these agents:
Direct Release Systems
Direct release systems utilize heat and flame sensitive Firetrace Detection Tubing as a detection device and for suppressant delivery.
Here’s how they work:
We recommend direct release systems for protection of electrical cabinets. For protection of vehicles or CNC machines, we recommend indirect release systems.
In-Direct Release Systems
Indirect release systems use heat and flame sensitive Firetrace Detection Tubing as a fire detection and system activation device, not as the discharge tube.
Here’s how they work:
Both direct and indirect systems are available in low and high-pressure functionality for areas of any size. A fire suppression specialist can help determine which system is right for your application.
High-Pressure CO2 Systems
Make safety a priority with an indirect high-pressure (IHP) CO2 system. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless, odorless, electrically non-conductive gas that is highly effective at suppressing a wide variety of Class A, B, and C fires.
In areas with delicate electronic equipment, such as server rooms and data rooms, and storage areas with potentially combustible materials, sprinkler systems are not the ideal extinguishing agent. Typically, in those environments with valuable machinery and lots of people working you will find clean agent fire suppression systems. These use manufactured, inert gasses to suppress fires. However, in areas with no building personnel like engine rooms, power stations, and around large industrial machines, CO2 fire suppression systems may be the most effective fire protection systems.
Here’s how they work:
Please note:
Always use caution when considering a CO2 fire protection system because a person must never occupy the protected areas. Even small amounts of CO2 can be harmful or fatal if inhaled.
Generally, CO2 fire suppression systems flood the protected space with a 34% concentration of CO2. A 7.5% concentration is considered hazardous to humans.
Due to the health risks posed by high levels of CO2 discharged from the suppression system, a number of life safety devices and mechanisms are put in place in and around the protected spaces. One such device is a pneumatic siren that is used to alert personnel when CO2 will be discharged from the system.
In addition to these safety mechanisms, it is critical to train all employees and personnel in the building on the health risks of a CO2 fire suppression system, as well as appropriate evacuation procedures in the event of a fire.
DUAL ACTION SYSTEM
The new Dual Action System combines the proven technology of Firetrace’s two world-leading approaches to fire suppression.
It is specifically designed to provide the best all-round protection for complex micro- environments. This makes it ideally suited to hazards with multiple ignition points or semi-segmented spaces, which can make it difficult to predict where fires will start.
Using a patented, dual action valve unique to Firetrace, the Dual Action System combines the benefits of Firetrace’s local application (direct) and total flooding (indirect) systems.
Why choose the Dual Action System?
Fire suppression is insurance against loss. For businesses with assets and equipment that are either high value or highly flammable – or both – the double-layered protection offered by Firetrace’s Dual Action System gives that invaluable peace of mind.
Tackling a fire with local application (direct) is sometimes enough, but secondary fires do happen – often in multiple locations – making the additional, total flooding (indirect) suppression of the Dual Action System absolutely essential.
